Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice

The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Norris, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.

Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.

Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.

His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.

Tsunoda slid over the track edges before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.

Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.

The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.

The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
